EXiT: THE Game
EXIT 脱出:ザ・ゲーム
EXiT: THE HAUNTED ROLLER COASTER / THEFT ON THE MISSISSIPPI』
EXIT 脱出:ザ・ゲーム 恐怖のローラーコースター/ミシシッピ川盗難事件
EXiT: The Game is an escape room boardgame series which you use various components (and sometimes the box itself) to solve puzzles. More than ten titles have been translated into Japanese.
In the Haunted Roller Coaster, you are locked in a roller coaster course where you encounter some horrible (but somewhat cute) ghosts. You must solve riddles to find the way out. Because the puzzles in this title are sequential and you would not confuse the order to solve them, it is a good choice for beginners or young children (in Japanese translation, I used easier words and fewer Kanji [Chinese letter], so that younger players can enjoy it).
The Theft on the Mississippi is for more advanced players. As a team of investigators who happened to be encountered a case of theft, you have to investigate eight suspects. However, they will not tell you what they saw at the time of the incident until you accommodate some requests of them…
I translated whole texts and localized english-related puzzles.

AFF: The Titan Herbal
AFF:タイタン植物図鑑
Advanced Fighting Fantasy: The Titan Herbal
タイタン植物図鑑
(アドバンスト・ファイティング・ファンタジー第2版)
The Titan Herbal is a guidebook for Fighting Fantasy RPG series which shows the data of 255 plants and fungi in Titan world setting. The cover art of English version is a simple one, but a beautiful illustration was added for Japanese version.
In Japanese translation. names of fictional items, creatures and places are often transliterated into Katakana, one of the Japanese syllabaries (e.g. Japanese translation for Port Blacksand is ポート・ブラックサンド [pōto burakkusando]). In this occasion, however, we decided to interpret the meaning of the plants’ names and created names which would sound natural for Japanese users for most of the entries. It was not a simple replacement of the words. For example, some of the plants in this book have suffix “-bane”, but I translated it into Japanese in various ways, like “-koroshi” (a killer), “-tomurai”(a funeral) and “-kui”(an eater). This task required a deep understanding of these fictional plants features and so challenging, but I am very proud and happy that these translated names I thought would be used among Japanese AFF players henceforward.
I translated whole part of plants’ description.

Escape Tales: Children of Wyrmwoods
ストーリードリブン脱出ゲーム:ワームウッズの子供たち
Escape Tales: Children of Wyrmwoods
ストーリードリブン脱出ゲーム:ワームウッズの子供たち
Gilbert is a young man living in a town surrounded by a mysterious forest, Wyrmwoods. Because the forest is infested by dangerous plant hybrids, Wyrmvines, no one in the town knows about the world outside. One day, Gilbert found a town’s dark secret and forced to venture out into the forest…
In “Escape Tales” series, you can enjoy challenging puzzles and rich stories. This third title has more than sixty different endings and you can play it multiple times. The main character Gilbert has four status (Stamina, Spirit, Sanity and Charisma) and they change in accordance with your choices and affects the ending of the story.
I translated the story texts of booklets and game app. I also localized some puzzles for Japanese players.

アドベンチャーゲーム:モノクロームInc.
The player characters of the second title of the "Adventure Games" series are criminal group, who are instructed to break in a research facility of a large pharmaceutical company, Monochrome Inc. Through the investigation, the characters find the dark secrets of the company.
This game uses the "Adventure Book". By reading this booklet, players can find the results of item combinations or players' choices and multiple endings of the story. I translated the most parts of the booklet and game cards, which is about 25,000 words.

Escape Tales: Low Memory
ストーリードリブン脱出ゲーム:ローメモリー
Escape Tales: Low Memory
ストーリードリブン脱出ゲーム:ローメモリー
Escape Tales is a series of story driven escape room games, in which you can enjoy challenging puzzles and immersive stories. Japanese version of the previous title Escape Tales: The Awakening was published in January 2020 and got favorable notices among boardgame fans.
Unlike the Awakening, in which players adventured in a strange parallel world to save main character's daughter who is in a coma, Low Memory is a sci-fi or cyberpunk story around the “memory scanner”, a futuristic machine to recreate human memories. Each of the the three chapters of the story has its own main character and to see the whole picture of the incident, you have to explore three story lines in order.
I translated the story texts of one of the three chapters.

Adventure Games: The Dungeon
アドベンチャーゲーム:ザ・ダンジョン
The player characters woke up in a dark dungeon and found that they had no memory about themselves. The only thing they remembered a name of a man, who seemed to be their friend... Find the way out, solve the mysteries, and recover your memories.
This boardgame by KOSMOS Games is a kind of escape game, but it is not a simple puzzle-solving game. The fantasy-taste story is playing important part in this game, and your decisions change the ending of the story.
I translated some parts of the story texts and game instructions with staff members of Group SNE, the publisher of the Japanese version.

Advanced Fighting Fantasy:
Beyond the Pit
超・モンスター事典―奈落の彼方に―
(アドバンスト・ファイティング・ファンタジー第2版)
An encyclopedia of monsters which roams in Titan, the world setting of Fighting Fantasy role-playing game series. Many of the gamebooks and supplement books of Fighting Fantasy series have been translated into Japanese, and although it has 40–year-long history, there are still many Japanese TTRPG players and gamebook lovers who enjoy adventures in the Titan world (including my husband!).
This book shows not only status data and illustrations of about 270 monsters, but also how they are living and interacting with adventurers.
In this joint translation project, I translated more than 50 articles.
Based on Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy series
